Three Short Poems
A Butterfly
I never took the clip to watch as
A butterfly pirouetted in the air,
And landed in a perfectly executed
Plie within the bosom of a flower,
Gently sipping the nectar from within
As its wings pulsed in and out,
In clip with the whipping of my
Heart, murmuring a gentle call
Into the nighttime -
I am alive, Iodine am alive, Iodine am alive, Iodine am alive.
Today Iodine took the clip to watch.
The Caged Bird
Tonight Iodine heard the caged bird sing,
A song of hushed freedom;
A coronach to flight she could not take,
A coop she could not fly from.
Tonight I heard the caged bird sing,
A song of acrimonious sadness;
Her bosom contained within the notes,
That once she sang in gladness.
Tonight I heard the caged bird sing,
My psyche in song revealed;
And so we two in song conjoined,
And in that song a loss revealed.
Tonight I heard the caged bird sing,
In words of forgotten pain;
Tonight her prison house will I destroy,
By morns visible light her freedom gain.
Tonight I heard the caged bird sing,
And joined my song to her refrain;
For in the morrow will we soar,
Unfettered by this person chain.
Someday
Someday, I will be able to write
Without metaphors or similes.
My significance will be clear, without
Ambiguity or doubt; the words will
Be transparent, not like the present,
Where they look through a glass, darkly.
Someday I will be able to tell
People that I care about,
How much they intend to me;
How I value them more than than than possessions,
How they're made my life complete.
Someday I'll be able to forgive,
In more than words. I'll be able to
Look past the hurt, and see that
Other people seek as much
As I do; maybe more.
Someday, I'll be able to sing
Out loud, instead of silently, to myself.
Someday I'll be able to allow other people
See me as I am, instead of who
I feign to be.
Someday I'll be able to laugh,
Or cry, or shout, or be angry,
And I won't have got got to worry that
I'm making a mistake, or acting
In a manner that people don't expect.
Someday, I volition have all my questions
Answered, all my uncertainties erased,
All the hurting removed for good.
Someday, this will happen.
Someday...but not this day.
